Alrijne launches digital preoperative screening via E-POS

Three operating locations require maximum coordination

Due to the wide range of care services offered, Alrijne performs operations at three different locations. This requires a careful balance between medical preparation and logistical planning. Preoperative screening plays a central role in this: it is the moment when it is determined what preparation is needed and whether additional diagnostics or a consultation with the anesthesiologist is required.

Previously, patients would routinely visit the outpatient clinic for this screening. Although this process was carefully organized, it meant an extra hospital visit and additional travel time for many patients, even when a physical appointment ultimately proved unnecessary.

To make the process more efficient and patient-friendly, Alrijne has redesigned the screening process, with digital support as its foundation.

Joint redesign of the process

To ensure that the quality of care could be maintained at the same high level, a project group was set up in which we at NovaCair worked closely with the Anesthesiology department and outpatient clinic staff. Together, we determined what the future screening process should look like, which bottlenecks could be resolved, and how digital support could be optimally integrated.

It was important that patients with specific conditions or surgeries were also scheduled at the correct location within Alrijne as part of the digital process.

E-POS a foundation: validated triage and targeted deployment of care

The Anesthesiology Department at Alrijne is therefore launching E-POS, NovaCair's digital preoperative screening software. Using a validated triage algorithm, E-POS helps E-POS carefully determine which patients need an additional consultation, which patients can be safely prepared digitally, and which additional diagnostics are appropriate.

This allows physical consultations to be used in a more targeted manner and gives healthcare professionals faster and clearer insight into relevant patient information. At the same time, patients only come to the hospital when medically necessary, which reduces unnecessary clinic visits, saves time, makes more efficient use of healthcare capacity, and further reduces the ecological footprint.

With E-POS , patients E-POS most of their screening from home, at their own pace and in their own language, while personal attention is guaranteed for those who need extra guidance.
